In this capacity, we have litigated several cases of national note. In Hart v. Wood Scales , the independent contractor defense in the timber industry was eliminated; First Federal Bank v. Burrus , a breach of sale and mortgage contract suit, relied upon Civil RICO and banking laws, resulting in a $37 million decision; Benson v. Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission , argued in the Louisiana Supreme Court, successfully challenged the Commissioner's right to preclude an auto dealer from establishing and automobile dealership. The successful outcome gave a New Orleans businessman the ability to establish a network of auto dealerships and eventually purchase the New Orleans Saints with the firm's legal advice, negotiating skills and participation in the ownership.
